But the difference, he says, is that there was already a demonstrable demand for such a tunnel, shown by the pre-existing ferry service. He estimates the tunnelling alone would cost £1.8bn, and then there's the cost of road and rail infrastructure. He suggests a tunnel at Stonehenge would be more effective at connecting the south west of England. It also has the benefit of linking two existing roads. |
